International Clinical Skills Training for Health Professionals

The Cancer Institute Foundation, Inc. (CIF) for the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP)-Philippines hosted the 2nd Asian Interregional Skills Training Course on the Single Visit Approach last March 22 to 28, 2009 in collaboration with JHPIEGO, an affiliate of John Hopkins University. This 7-day training was held in the Cancer Institute (CI) Auditorium through support of the UP Manila Chancellor, Dr. Ramon Arcadio and the Cancer Institute Foundation President, Mr. Antonio Perez. Twenty participants from different countries in Asia, Africa and South America participated, with 2 gynecologic oncologists from India and Peru as observers aiming to start the same cervical cancer prevention programs in their respective places of origin. Other represented countries included Mongolia, North Korea, Micronesia, and El Salvador. The trainers included Dr. Ricky Lu, Master Trainer and Director of JHPIEGO-Cervical Cancer Prevention Programs, Dr. Cecilia Ladines-Llave, Dr. Joyceline Silao and Dr. Jaycee Almaria. The participants had interactive lectures, demonstrations and adequate practice of VIA and cryotherapy with models. Clinic practice was observed for four days, enabling the participants to perform the Single Visit Approach (SVA) with actual clients.
