'Laban ni Maria sa Cervical Cancer' Concert September 23, 2009 marked the launch of the Laban ni Maria sa Cervical Cancer at the Activity Center, Eastwood Libis, Quezon City by the Francis Magalona Clothing Company (FMCC) together with MTV Philippines, GlaxoSmithKline and Bravehearts. More than just another benefit concert event for chosen charity organizations, one of which is the Cancer Institute Foundation, Inc. (CIF) for the Cervical Cancer Prevention Network (CECAP), it was a program campaign supporting the fight against cervical cancer, a crusade to saving women's lives. More than 1000 people took part in the launch of Laban ni Maria, which was hosted by VJ Eri and the daughter of the late Master Rapper Francis M., Maxene Magalona. Various artists and bands performed on stage, such as Elmo Magalona (son of Francis M.), Ely Buendia, Pupil, and Imago, among others. Dr. Cecilia Ladines-Llave, Director of the CECAP, received the Laban ni Maria sa Cervical Cancer t-shirt given by Mrs. Pia Magalona, a cofounder of the FMCC, and Maxene as a ceremonial token in the struggle against cervical cancer in the Philippines. Cervical cancer is a disease that can be treated only when diagnosed early; it is also a cancer that can be prevented through healthy lifestyle and by vaccination. For every "Laban ni Maria" t-shirt sold during the event, a portion of the proceeds have been promised to CECAP to fund programs in the grassroots communities. See more photos of the event here. |
