Cancer Prevention through Early Detection The Cancer Detection Clinic at the ground floor of the CI, open Wednesdays, 8:00 am–12:00 noon, sees both new symptomatic patients as well as undiagnosed, at-risk patients. The screening hub was designed to be a one-stop facility implementing the Single Visit Approach (SVA). SVA is being advocated as an efficient and effective strategy to prevent cervical cancer in the low resource setting, ensuring patient work-up compliance, early diagnosis and better treatment. In the near future, the clinic will also be accommodating novice patients and referrals from all other specialties, in accordance to how it has been originally envisioned to become.

Feeding the Body, Mind and Spirit Every Wednesday, cancer patients get their fill of sumptuously hot rice porridge from Mrs. Trinidad Co. The Dietary Department of the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) also provides nutritional support to patients of the Cancer Institute by preparing nourishing meals during their confinement and by being part of workshops as resource speakers on living a healthy lifestyle for the CI patients.
Also, every second Tuesday of the month from 2001 to 2005 here at the Cancer Institute, the Hari Om Tat Sat Hermitage rendered free Reiki services for patients, their family members and health staff. Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
With the vision to provide sanctuaries for the sick, especially cancer patients, their families and care givers, that they may be healed, not only physically, but also spiritually, the Osewa (meaning, "caring for you") Healing Gardens Club—in addition to its initial project of sprucing up the different gardens within and surrounding the Cancer Institute—also holds "healing workshops" in visual and performing arts, meditation, music therapy, aroma therapy, exercise, yoga, dance, look-good-feel-good programs, horticulture and story-telling.
